Standard 6: Engage in professional learning
6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice
Standard 6.2 suggests that I should understand the relevant and appropriate sources of professional learning for teachers (AITSL, 2014). Therefore as evidence to support my development in this standard I have included copies of my first aid certificates, certificates attended from additional training and development, responding to abuse and neglect training (RAN) certificate and a reflection on the work I did in collaboration with other teaching staff to implement the South Australian Teaching for Effective Learning Framework as a whole school.
First Aid Training:
Gaining Basic Emergency Life Support training is essential to become a qualified teacher. However my first experience working in a special education setting I was faced with students with Epilepsy and the school was running training sessions. Therefore I asked if I could possibly attend the training in the best interests of my students.

Additional training & development:
These certificates were part of additional training I undertook with other colleagues. The first was a workshop recommended by my mentor teacher as the program was used in the class I taught. The second certificate of attendance was undertaken to support my work in an out of school ours care position. Both provided me with experience undertaking professional learning and development with other colleagues and helped to broaden and expand my development as a beginning professional.
Responding to Abuse & Neglect Training:
Responding to abuse and neglect training must be undertaken by anyone who will be working with children or young adults. This full day training involved 8 sessions. These were:
Session 1: Responding to concerns Session 2: Barriers to recognising abuse and neglect Session 3: Professional practice Session 4: Understanding trauma Session 5: Definitions and indicators of abuse and neglect Session 6: Responding to children and young peoples disclosures Session 7: Information sharing Session 8: Making contact with the Child Abuse Report Line This training has made me more confident in identifying abuse and neglect or trauma situations through focusing on the child and their rights to safety and wellbeing. This training was very informative in regards to what to do when making reports. The training provided many practical strategies and resources to support educators when responding to concerns of this manner. |

Working with the South Australian Teaching for Effective Learning Framework (SA TfEL):
Over my experience I have had the opportunity to work with the South Australian Teaching for Effective Learning Framework. One of the schools I was involved in strongly focused on making a whole school improvement through implementing different elements of the SA TfEL framework. Each week at the staff meeting the teaching team would discuss and reflect as a group how they went with different activities suggested within the framework. This was very insightful and it was great to be involved in the sharing as I was able to reflect and receive sound advice from more experienced practitioners to implement the framework more effectively within the curriculum.
